About Syllabus at FIU

Centralizing FIU’s Syllabi Project

The syllabus is the entry point to an academic course. It serves as the student’s guide through the semester and establishes the instructor’s expectations toward successful course completion. All of FIU’s University Core Curriculum (UCC) course syllabi will be managed centrally effective Fall 2023. Pursuant to Florida Statutes, Section 1004.085, required and recommended textbook and instructional materials and the respective UCC syllabi have been publicly accessible at tim.fiu.edu since July 2022. To optimize the user experience, the university’s Syllabi@FIU project is launching the Simple Syllabus tool to offer direct public access to UCC syllabi for Fall 2023 courses.

An essential component of teaching and learning success, centralizing and uniformly managing all FIU’s syllabi in the near future will reduce the workload for instructors, provide one-stop access to past and present syllabi for students, and generate new organizational efficiencies for instructional staff and administrators.

Stay tuned for further project updates on centralizing FIU’s syllabi.
